In the most northern point of the country is where the Pacific ocean and Tasman sea meet and ‘fight’. The place is called Cape Reinga, a sacred spot for Maoris because this is where spirits begin the journey to leave the earth as they ascend through the step like roots of a Kahika, the only tree able to live exposed to wind, salt and lack of soil, in the rocky wall of the cliffs.
