Driving creek railway & potteries 191110

Coromandel Peninsula is a beautiful place full of beaches, Pohutukawas ( New Zealand Christmas tree) growing all over the shore and with plenty of natural refuges for sea birds. The bad weather though, didn't allow me to enjoy as much as I would have liked to. One of the attractions of this region is the Driving Creek Railway, a train that takes you through the forest for an hour. But the history behind it is the most interesting thing. In the eighties a potter bought a piece of forestry land. He started to build up a railway as a mechanism to transport clay and wood from the forest to his pottery workshop. After some years of work, he decided to take some advantatge of it by transforming the railway into a tourist activity where people could see some of his work displayed on the train route. It was sort of a natural gallery, in his own way.
