Auckland is the metropolis of New Zealand, consisting of a million inhabitants (¼ of the total population of the country) and the city is spread along an isthmus that contains around 52 volcanoes. The Pacific Ocean and Tasman Sea are often clearly visible from the tops of these volcanoes that now function as parks or recreation áreas and as in other parts of the country, public sheep are allowed to graze freely. This particular volcano belongs to One Tree Hill Park, a name with no meaning anymore as the pine planted by early setllers on the top of the hill was cut down by Maori activist who claimed the importance of the volcano as a sacred place for their ancestors.
