Capitan Scott's Expedition

A part of the Kelly Tarlton centre has been dedicated to first expeditions undertaken to the South Pole. There is a re-creation of the base station that was used by Robert Scott as the starting point for the conquest of the South Pole. It's a pretty tragic story in some ways. as inspite of achieving their goal of reaching the South Pole in 1912, Scott and his five men were unable to find their way back, leading to many days of starvation, and ultimately perishing on the white continent. It is, however necessary to point out that Scott wasn’t the first to reach the South Pole; Amudsen, a Norwegian explorer had arrived on the South Pole a few days earlier. The popularity of Scott and his men was largely triggered by their dramatic end.
