Tiritiri matangi island 141010

This wildlife reserve is a bird paradise. It is pest free, so there are no introduced mammals such as dogs, rats, possums, stoats. The Department of Conservation (DOC, along with Biosecurity New Zealand are very strict in all matters that concern the biosecurity of the island: one day visits, food always in containers and backpack checking for rodents. After that you may be lucky enough to see kiwis, blue penguins and takahes among other endangered birds. But you will be able to see Greg for sure, who is a very friendly takahe.
