The northern part of New Zealand is where you can find most traces of Maori culture and the oldest buildings constructed by Europeans 200 years ago. This is largely because the northern part was the point of entry into the country. We visited the house located in Paiha where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed in 1840, This document guarantees the rights of Maori and English people under the sovereignty of the British Kingdom, allowing the peaceful coexistence of both cultures.
